Russia, Ukraine’s round of talks to center on draft deal

(MENAFN) A third round of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine is expected to take place this week, with discussions centered on draft memoranda aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict, according to a Kremlin spokesperson.

“We hope that the talks between Russia and Ukraine will be held this week,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during a press briefing. “We will announce the dates as soon as we are ready.”

While commenting on the likely outcomes, Peskov cautioned against high expectations, stating, “We have no reason to expect any magical breakthroughs, which are hardly likely in the current situation.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously announced that the delegations from both countries were scheduled to meet on July 23 in Istanbul. However, a source familiar with the matter indicated the meeting might instead take place on July 24.
