Lavrov sends Independence Day greetings to Rubio

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has sent Independence Day greetings to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the American people ahead of Friday’s celebrations.

In his message, Lavrov voiced support for American unity and the values of the American Dream, while expressing hope for a reset in US-Russia relations.

“I believe we can work together to guide our relations toward a creative and constructive path, making them stable and predictable, based on mutual respect for our national interests shaped by history, geography, and current realities,” Lavrov stated.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended similar well-wishes to US President Donald Trump during a phone call. According to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, Putin wished Trump success with his reforms and highlighted Russia’s historical support for America’s fight for independence.

Moscow has signaled a more positive view of the Trump administration compared to that of Joe Biden, who had pursued policies aimed at Russia’s strategic defeat and pledged ongoing military aid to Ukraine.

Trump has criticized Biden’s Ukraine policy as wasteful and damaging to US interests. Since returning to office, his administration has resumed direct talks with Moscow and is seeking a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict, with hopes of fostering future economic cooperation.

However, despite optimism, Moscow has expressed concern over Trump’s recent decisions — notably his military action against Iran in support of Israel’s efforts to dismantle Tehran’s nuclear program, which Russia condemned as illegal and destabilizing for global security.
