China's mutual visa-exemption deal with Malaysia coms into effect
(MENAFN) China's mutual visa-exemption agreement with Malaysia officially came into effect on Thursday, marking a further expansion of China’s visa-free travel policy.
Under the agreement, Chinese and Malaysian citizens holding valid ordinary passports can travel to, transit through, or exit the other country without a visa. Each visit is limited to 30 days, with a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period.
The agreement took effect three months after it was signed, representing a significant step in promoting travel and international exchange. Since December 1, 2023, both countries had already been implementing a trial version of this policy for ordinary passport holders.
In 2024, over 3.8 million Chinese tourists visited Malaysia, making China the top non-ASEAN source of visitors. The formal adoption of the policy reflects the mutual recognition of the trial’s success by both governments and their citizens, said Azman Ujang, chairman of the Malaysia-China Research think tank.
