Trump Softens China Approach in Bid for Trade Deal

A top-level meeting between Trump and Xi now seems probable following a recent encounter in Malaysia between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Rubio characterized the discussions as “positive” and noted that both nations were strongly committed to organizing a summit between their leaders. The Chinese administration mirrored that view, describing the exchange as “pragmatic and constructive.”
