Syrian President Credits Foreign Mediation
(MENAFN) Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa declared on Thursday that Israel’s alleged attempts to disrupt the region’s stability were blocked through both international mediation and domestic initiatives.
In a nationally broadcast address, Sharaa claimed that even though Israeli actions had focused on civilian and governmental targets, “state efforts to restore stability and expel outlaw factions have succeeded.”
He emphasized that these achievements were made possible “without the effective intervention of American, Arab, and Turkish mediation, which saved the region from an unknown fate,” underlining the crucial role played by foreign actors.
The president accused Israel of striving to transform Syria into “an arena of endless chaos” by fostering division among its population.
He emphasized that the Syrian people have historically resisted “all kinds of separation and division.”
Highlighting national unity, Sharaa affirmed, “The Druze people are an integral part of the fabric of this homeland.”
He clarified that instead of escalating tensions into armed conflict, Syria opted to empower notable Druze leaders to pursue a peaceful resolution with Israel—“at the expense of our Druze people and their security and destabilizing Syria and the entire region."
Additionally, he mentioned that certain community groups and influential individuals have been entrusted with overseeing security in Suwayda.
This measure aims to prevent “a new large-scale war that might drag it away from its major goals of recovering from the devastating (civil) war and distancing it from the political and economic difficulties left behind by the former regime.”
