Zelenskyy Seeks to Prolong Martial Law, Nationwide Mobilization

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday introduced two draft bills to the Verkhovna Rada, the country’s parliament, aiming to prolong both martial law and nationwide mobilization by another 90 days.

According to the official filings published on the Verkhovna Rada’s website, the proposed extensions would keep the emergency measures in place through November 5.

Should lawmakers approve and sign the measures into law, the bill concerning general mobilization will take effect on August 7. The martial law legislation, however, will become active upon its official publication.

Zelenskyy originally enacted both martial law and general mobilization on February 24, 2022—the day Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow labeled a “special military operation.”

Since then, Ukraine has repeatedly renewed these wartime measures, with the most recent extensions authorized in April.
