Palestinians Mourn Victims in West Bank
(MENAFN) Hundreds of Palestinian mourners gathered on Sunday to bid farewell to young men who were murdered by unauthorized Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank town of Sinjil, located northeast of Ramallah.
Among the victims was 23-year-old Saif al-Din Kamel Abdul Karim Muslat, a US citizen, who was beaten to death by illegal settlers.
The other victim, 23-year-old Mohammed al-Shalabi, succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest. Both fatalities were confirmed by the Palestinian Health Ministry on Friday.
“Saif came back for (the Islamic festival of) Eid, and when illegal settlers began establishing an outpost near the village, he joined the locals to push them back. They beat him to death,” his uncle, Abdel Jalil Hijaz, told a news agency.
Palestinian statistics indicate that approximately 770,000 illegal settlers reside in 180 unlawful settlements and 256 unauthorized outposts throughout the occupied West Bank.
The international community, including the UN, regards these Israeli settlements as illegal under international law.
The UN has frequently cautioned that the ongoing expansion of settlements endangers the feasibility of a two-state solution, which is widely regarded as a crucial framework for resolving the long-standing Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Palestinian authorities recorded at least 2,153 attacks by illegal settlers in the occupied territory during the first half of the year alone, resulting in the deaths of four Palestinians.
