LONDON, July 2 (KUNA) -- Battersea Power Station, overlooking the River Thames, has been transformed into a recreational and residential hub attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors, after having provided a fifth of London's electricity needs, particularly for the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace.
From the 1930s to 1980s, Battersea Power Station was a working Power Station, in 1983, the Power Station closed and ceased to generate electricity, in 1987, it was purchased by Battersea Leisure (theme park scheme) and again in 1993 by Parkview.
It became a park until 2013, when work began to redevelop the surrounding grounds and construct a new residential complex including apartments, shops, restaurants, open parks, as well as entertainment, cultural, and historical sites.
In 2017, River Bus services launched at Battersea Power Station, bringing it closer to the city and providing an additional route for residents and workers.
Homeowners took up occupancy in Battersea Power Station complex in 2021, and the remaining facilities opened in 2023. The number of visitors to Battersea Power Station that year exceeded 11.2 million. (end)
