Doha, Qatar: Ambassador of Vietnam to Qatar H E Nguyen Huy Hiep chaired the 74th meeting of the Asean Committee in Doha (ACD), marking the start of Vietnam's Chairmanship for 2026.

The meeting focused on shaping and endorsing the ACD's Calendar of Activities for 2026, which will serve as a roadmap for joint initiatives among Asean diplomatic missions in Qatar over the coming year.

In his remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep highlighted the importance of maintaining close coordination among Asean embassies while enhancing outreach efforts in Qatar. He noted that planned activities would aim to further promote Asean's identity, strengthen community ties, and deepen engagement with local partners across cultural, social, and development-related areas.

The Ambassador also acknowledged the contributions of the Royal Thai Embassy during its 2025 chairmanship, which helped reinforce Asean's presence in Qatar and laid a solid foundation for continued collaboration.

Under Vietnam's leadership, the ACD is expected to pursue a more dynamic and outward-looking approach, with emphasis on practical initiatives that both strengthen intra-Asean cooperation and broaden Asean's engagement with Qatar.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Asean member states to work collectively in advancing their common interests and elevating Asean's profile in Qatar through coordinated activities throughout 2026.

Asean–Qatar relations have continued to develop positively in recent years, with expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. The Asean Committee in Doha plays a central role in supporting this momentum by fostering unity among Asean missions and promoting stronger connections with the host country.

The Asean Committee in Doha comprises the ambassadors of Asean member states resident in Qatar, including Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
