Syria Denies Assassination Attempt on President
(MENAFN) Syria dismissed on Sunday the media claims alleging an assassination attempt targeting President Ahmad al-Sharaa during his visit to the southern Daraa province.
“There is no truth in circulated media reports claiming that the Syrian army and Turkish intelligence had thwarted an assassination attempt on President Sharaa during his visit to Daraa,” a ministry official told a state news agency.
However, the news agency did not share any further information regarding the supposed attempt.
In January, a new transitional administration headed by President Sharaa was established in Syria after the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
Assad, who governed Syria for nearly a quarter of a century, escaped to Russia in December, bringing an end to the Baath Party’s decades-long hold on power since 1963.
