Türkiye, Iran Announce Partial Resumption of Flights

(MENAFN) Air travel between Türkiye and Iran resumed in limited capacity on Friday, following a 15-day hiatus triggered by the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, according to Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu.

In a statement on social media platform X, Uraloglu confirmed that flights from the Iranian city of Mashhad to Istanbul, operated by Iranian carriers, are restarting today.

“This marks a partial reopening of air travel between Türkiye and Iran after a 15-day hiatus,” Uraloglu said.

However, the minister clarified that airspace over Tehran and Tabriz, both key cities in western Iran, will remain closed. Restrictions are set to continue until at least Wednesday, July 2.

Uraloglu also provided an update on efforts to assist Turkish airlines affected by the airspace closure. “Discussions are ongoing with Iranian authorities to facilitate the return of Turkish planes that remain grounded in Iran under special permits,” he added. "Efforts are continuing to fully normalize flights with Iran and bring the grounded planes back to Türkiye as soon as possible."

The minister previously disclosed that seven Turkish airline aircraft had been stranded in Iran due to the shutdown.

Meanwhile, an Iranian news agency reported that the country has delayed the full reopening of its airspace until Saturday afternoon.

The closure came on June 13, following Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and other Iranian regions. After 12 days of aerial conflict, a ceasefire agreement was reached between the two nations on Tuesday.
