UK Highlights Türkiye's Strategic Importance

(MENAFN) A recent British government review, titled National Security Strategy 2025: Security for the British People in a Dangerous World, underscores Türkiye's critical role in maintaining UK security interests across Europe and along NATO's borders.

The policy paper, released on Tuesday, reaffirms Türkiye as a vital partner in both defense and security matters.

The strategy document elaborates that Türkiye’s geographic position "at the crossroads between the Black Sea, the Caucasus, the Middle East and Africa" makes it "imperative" to the UK's security interests.

It also stresses that Türkiye continues to be a key NATO ally and an important bilateral partner for the UK, especially due to their strong military collaboration and defense industry cooperation.

The review further addresses the growing threats and challenges faced by the UK, stating that the nation must prepare for the potential of a "wartime scenario" on its own soil for the first time in decades.

It emphasizes the increasingly confrontational global environment, pointing out that Russia’s actions, particularly in the ongoing Ukraine war, serve as the "most obvious and pressing example" of these threats.

The strategy concludes by stating: "For the first time in many years, we have to actively prepare for the possibility of the UK homeland coming under direct threat, potentially in a wartime scenario."
