Putin, Araghchi Discuss Mideast Escalation, Dangers Of Widespread Conflict

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, June 23 (KUNA) -- President Vladimir Putin and visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed on Monday the current alarming situation in the Middle East and the dangers of widespread regional conflict.
During the talks in Moscow, Putin condemned the unwarranted aggression on Iran, which he deemed as baseless.
Putin described Araghchi's visit to Moscow as a chance to find a solution to the current conflict, which threatens not only the region, but the world.
Araghchi affirmed, for his part, that Russia and Iran were coordinating on issues of global security consequences, indicating that the Israeli occupation and US aggression on Iran was illegitimate and stressed that his country had the right to defense its sovereignty.
He expressed gratitude to Moscow for its stance and denunciation of the attacks carried out by the Israeli occupation and the US.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi arrived in Moscow late Sunday to hold talks with officials on the current Israeli occupation and US aggression especially on nuclear facilities.
He indicated that both Tehran and Moscow were looking forward for the negotiations with Washington on Iran's nuclear file; however, the Israeli occupation aggression on June 13 and subsequent attack by the US shifted the narrative entirely.
The US had launched on Sunday a military strike against three nuclear facilities in Iran, which was deemed a success by President Donald Trump.
The Moscow visit was announced by the Iranian official during his participation in the 51st meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers meeting Istanbul. The visit is said to coordinate Iran and Russia's strategic partnership. (end)
