Türkiye Urges Restraint After US Strike on Iran
(MENAFN) The Turkish Foreign Ministry voiced serious alarm on Sunday regarding the recent US assault on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, cautioning that such actions could transform the ongoing regional tensions into a broader global confrontation.
In an official release, the ministry stated, “The US attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear sites on June 22 has maximized the risk we repeatedly highlighted, the escalation of conflict and destabilization of the security environment.”
This highlighted Türkiye’s previous warnings about growing instability in the region.
Ankara conveyed it is “deeply concerned” about the potential aftermath of this military action, which specifically targeted Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
It warned that “these developments may lead the regional dispute to a global level,” underscoring the fear of an expanding crisis. “We do not want to see such a disastrous scenario unfold,” the statement continued.
Türkiye urged all involved parties to behave responsibly and to “immediately halt reciprocal attacks” in order to prevent further suffering and destruction.
It stressed that de-escalation is necessary to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.
The ministry insisted that “the only way to resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program is through negotiations,” encouraging global actors to bolster diplomatic approaches aimed at a peaceful resolution.
The statement concluded by affirming that “Türkiye stands ready to fulfill its responsibilities and make constructive contributions,” showing Ankara’s willingness to play a mediating role in the crisis.
