Iraq Condemns US Attacks On Iran's Nuclear Sites, Calls For Calm

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, June 22 (KUNA) -- Iraq condemned the US attacks on Iran's nuclear sites, expressing concern over the security threat of this action on the Middle East.
In a statement on Sunday, Iraqi government spokesperson Bassem Al-Awadi said his country refused the use of power in international relations, calling the US to respect the sovereignty of countries and avoid targeting facilities supervised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Military operations are never the answer to resolve the situation, he said, adding that these attacks are a dangerous escalation in the region.
He called for holding urgent diplomatic talks to end the escalation, noting that it is the responsibility of the UN and the world powers to end conflicts instead of escalating them. (end)
