Amman, June 21 (Petra) Jordan celebrated World Music Day on Saturday with a series of concerts and artistic performances across its archaeological and tourist sites as part of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' "Music Month" initiative launched in early June in collaboration with the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB).
Observed annually on June 21 by more than 120 countries, World Music Day highlights music's role as a powerful tool for promoting cultural diversity, artistic exchange, and mutual understanding between peoples principles embraced by UNESCO.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities continues to roll out "Music Month" events across all governorates, aiming to stimulate cultural and tourism activity and enrich visitor experiences through performances that foster joy and community engagement.
Saturday's celebrations featured live performances in Amman, including a concert by musician Tareq Al Nasser at the Roman Theater, an oud performance by Alaa Al-Maaytah at Paris Circle in Jabal Al Luweibdeh, a violin show by Moataz Abdo at Faisal Square in downtown Amman, and a traditional rababa performance by Sameh Sobhi on Rainbow Street.
In recent days, similar events were held in various locations across the kingdom, with local artists delivering a wide range of musical acts that helped invigorate Jordan's cultural scene and attract public participation in heritage spaces.
The festivities continue through the end of the month, with upcoming performances including Autostrad in Umm Qais (June 24), singer Rami Shafiq at Al Hassan Youth City in Irbid (June 26), Talal Abu Al-Ragheb at the Odeon Theater in Amman (June 27), and an appearance by Rahoub Band in Mafraq.
As part of the program, "Music Month" also features screenings from the mobile cinema project "Cinema Eye," Jordan's first independent traveling cinema initiative. Curated by film programmer Yazan Al-Ghazzawi, the open-air screenings take place in cities including Amman, Jerash, Karak, Umm Al-Jimal, and Qatraneh. The initiative fosters interactive, community-driven programming and aims to reintegrate cinema into daily cultural life while encouraging dialogue.
All events are free and open to the public, though some require advance registration. Held in accessible public spaces, the initiative seeks to promote inclusivity and deepen cultural engagement throughout the kingdom.
