Bigger and betterAccording to organisers, the festival which will be“bigger, bolder and better”, will also be organized in a unique way this year. For the first time in DSS history, the festival will unfold in three curated shopping seasons. From June 27 to July 17 will be the Summer Holiday Offers, followed by the Great Dubai Summer Sale.
“The Great Dubai Summer Sale is going to be, like, the main event this season,” said Mohamad Feras, AVP Retail & Strategic Alliances at Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE).“It's going to be a three-week super-sales season, where retailers will provide 90 percent discount. During this event, we're giving away a Dh1 million cash prize, a luxury car and many more prizes across the full three weeks.”
This will be followed by almost three weeks of the Back to School campaign, which will give shoppers the opportunity to win several prizes including school fees and scholarships.
According to Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of DFRE, this year's editions will be the most“and value-packed edition to date” and will offer great value.“[There are] thousands of unbeatable offers, compelling retail promotions, and endless experiences showcasing everything that makes the emirate a truly global, world-class, and diverse family destination,” he said.
Dh10 dishesFor the first time during DSS, some restaurants will offer their signature dishes for Dh10. From August 1-31, this initiative will give residents and visitors the opportunity to discover hidden gems across the city and explore various cuisines. The concept was earlier trialed during the Dubai Food Festival and was an incredible success.
Another brand-new initiative will be the DSS Gahwa Beats, which will celebrate Dubai's vibrant café culture with citywide pop-ups. Every Saturday throughout the festival, residents will be able to enjoy good music with coffee at iconic venues across the city.
The popular Dubai Summer Restaurant Week will return from July 4-13. Diners can enjoy specially priced set menus for lunch and dinner at more than 50 of the city's most-loved restaurants. These will include everything from neighbourhood favourites to renowned international spots at exceptional value.
Shift in focusAccording to Suhaila Ghobash from DFRE, there has been a shift in focus in how DSS is planned.“Earlier, we only used to think of families and what they could do together,” she said.“However, now we know there are teenagers in the family. We have looked at the number of visitors who come to Dubai and we noticed that there are a lot of couples or a groups of friends who come during summer.”
She said that is why the establishment decided to widen the horizon.“We decided to expand in terms of content, promotions, offers, vacations, cool things to do like Gahwa Beats and concerts.”
There will be concerts featuring singers and performances from around the world as well as local talents to entertain visitors of the festival.
Staycations and fitness activitiesDuring DSS, people will be able to enjoy exclusive summer offers at more than 100 hotels and 15 top attractions across the city. These include resident rates, family packages, free upgrades, added extras, and surprise perks. The DSS Entertainer's summer package will last from June 27 to August 31, unlocking over 7,500 buy-one-get-one-free (BOGO) offers for Dh195.
Mall runs and fitness activities will also be available for those who want to stay fit during summer.
