Qatar Stresses Key Role For Family To Implement 2030 Sdgs

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar's Permanent Representative in Geneva HE Dr Hind Abdulrahman al-Muftah has called for the family to be an essential part of implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
This should be done by involving it in the design and implementation of programmes, adapting policies to take into account its specificities and capabilities, and supporting a balance between work and family life.
This came in her speech during an event held on the sidelines of the 59th session of the Human Rights Council. HE Dr al-Muftah highlighted the important role played by the family, as the natural and fundamental unit of society, in supporting and promoting the rights of its members and advancing sustainable development.
She also emphasised that the family that deserves protection and support is the one founded on a man and a woman who come together through marriage to establish a family. She noted that this understanding is recognised by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and UN instruments, making the family an effective element in building healthy generations and societies. HE Dr al-Muftah explained that Qatar has established a Ministry of Social Development and Family, which is undertaking effective efforts to strengthen the role of the family through policies, awareness campaigns, and financial support.
In this context, she noted that family policies have been integrated into national strategies to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, in addition to the presence of specialised institutions such as the Wifaq Center, the Aman Center, and the Doha International Family Institute.
She also emphasised that the values promoted by the family, such as equality, responsibility, and support, make it a key player in enforcing human rights and achieving development, emphasising the importance of policies that strengthen family cohesion.
