Türkiye Commits to Peaceful Negotiation as Israel-Iran Tensions Rise
(MENAFN) Bold diplomatic efforts and strong words marked Türkiye’s latest response to escalating Middle East tensions, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirming the nation's unwavering commitment to peaceful negotiation, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program, which he emphasized must be addressed at the diplomatic table.
Speaking after a Cabinet meeting on Monday, Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye has consistently supported dialogue over conflict since the beginning of discussions around Iran’s nuclear ambitions—and continues to do so today.
The president revealed that both he and the Turkish Foreign Ministry have been actively working behind the scenes to mediate and de-escalate the volatile standoff between Israel and Iran.
"We have clearly informed our counterparts that Türkiye is ready to do whatever is required of us (on the Iran-Israel conflict), including facilitation," Erdogan said, signaling Türkiye’s willingness to serve as a mediator.
Over the weekend, Erdogan engaged in a series of international phone calls with world leaders to raise alarms over what he described as a growing regional threat stemming from Israel’s actions.
He warned that Israeli military operations, carried out under the guise of neutralizing Iranian nuclear capabilities, carry far-reaching, insidious aims that threaten broader regional stability.
"With every act of oppression, every drop of blood shed, and every crime against humanity, Israel is gradually jeopardizing its own existence and the nation's future,” Erdogan declared, condemning Israel’s conduct in Gaza and its recent offensives in Lebanon, Syria, and neighboring Iran.
Describing these military actions as “reckless” and emotionally devastating, Erdogan added: Israel’s genocide in Gaza and its ‘reckless’ attacks on Lebanon and Syria are ‘making our hearts bleed.’
He cautioned that ignoring the region’s complex realities only invites deeper catastrophe.
“Every step taken in our region without considering realities leads to further disasters. These disasters usually result in the downfall of tyrants,” Erdogan stated.
Addressing Western backing for Israel, Erdogan said the country has received unconditional support even as it destroys Gaza and exerts dominance over neighboring territories.
Israel, "which has had infinite support from the West and destroyed Gaza and bullies the region,” he added, could come to regret its actions when it's already too late.
The Turkish leader ended with a warning against choosing violence over diplomacy:
"No one can predict the consequences of trying to solve issues that can be resolved at the table instead through weapons, destruction, bloodshed, chaos, and indiscriminate bombing."
Erdogan stressed that Türkiye’s commitment is not limited to words but includes tangible contributions such as humanitarian aid, diplomatic initiatives, economic and technological collaboration, and fostering regional unity through cultural and social ties.
