U.S. Scraps Upcoming Round of Russia Talks
(MENAFN) Moscow announced Monday that the upcoming session of bilateral diplomatic consultations with Washington has been scrapped—an action attributed to the United States.
In a written statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova revealed that the latest round of talks, aimed at restoring normal operations at both nations’ embassies, was canceled “at the initiative of American negotiators.”
“We hope that the pause they took will not be too long,” Zakharova added, offering no details about what prompted the U.S. to call off the meeting.
Officials in Washington have yet to publicly respond or confirm the cancellation.
The dialogue sessions, intended to ease diplomatic tensions and resolve issues surrounding embassy functionality, previously convened in Istanbul on February 27 and April 10.
Just last week, Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Alexander Darchiev told a news agency that a third meeting was planned to take place in Moscow “in the nearest future,” though he clarified the location swap—bringing talks to each other's capitals—was still “preliminary.”
