Greenhouse Communications Appoints Rachel Friend As CEO

(MENAFN- PRovoke) LONDON - Greenhouse Communications – a specialist green agency focused on positive social and environmental change – has appointed Rachel Friend as its new CEO.

Greenhouse, which was founded in 2004, has annual revenues of more than £6 million and works on climate-focused briefs for clients including Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Industrial Transition Accelerator, Triodos Bank and the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market. The 55-strong agency also supports clients on the ground at international events such as the UN Ocean Conference, Climate Week NYC and COP30.

Friend, who has been executive chair of Harvard since 2023 , will leave the VCCP technology agency at the end of September to take up her new role in October. She said:“We're facing a climate crisis that will define the future for generations to come. To protect and restore our planet, we have to act immediately.

“Greenhouse Communications has been at the forefront of delivering social and environmental impact on a global scale for two decades, supporting game changers, innovators, policy makers and campaigners to transform ideas into actions and solutions that can truly make a positive impact.

“For me, there couldn't be a more important mission. I passionately believe that communication has the power to create lasting behaviour change, when engaging and persuasive messages are delivered by those who command the most influence, with the creative flair that captures the imagination and generates action. That's why I am so privileged to join Greenhouse's award-winning team.”

Having been a certified B Corp since 2017, Greenhouse has recently moved to an employee ownership model. Founder Anna Guyer, who remains with the business, said:“Rachel has extensive experience running and growing agencies, coupled with an impressive track record in building high performing teams that are rooted in shared values and strong culture.

“This is a critical time for the climate action agenda – and we need brilliant communications now more than ever – so we're really excited to have a leader of Rachel's calibre taking the helm at Greenhouse as we transition to a new governance model.”

Before joining Harvard, Friend held CEO roles at Weber Shandwick and W Communications . She also chaired the PRCA between 2020-2022, undertook a mentoring role within the Women in PR networking group for over seven years, and more recently has been a mentor with Global Women in PR.

Speaking about her time at Harvard, Friend said:“I'm very proud of all we have achieved at Harvard over the last few years. We have a high performing, collaborative team who together have created a values-based culture and won flagship clients such as Salesforce , Getty Images, iRobot, OPPO, Orgvue, Palo Alto Networks, Snaplogic , Worcester Bosch and Western Digital .

"I leave the agency in the very capable hands of our hugely respected MD Lorna Hughes, who I know will continue to lead and inspire Harvard's clients and the agency alike with her own unique flair.”

Hughes has been with Harvard for more than 13 years, and has been MD since 2021. The firm was named as one of the 50 Best Agencies in the UK by PRovoke Media earlier this year.
