UAE-Ahmedabad Flights: Airline Operations Back To Normal Following Air India Crash

Only one flight from the UAE to Ahmedabad was affected by the temporary closure of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, following the tragic Air India crash.

Etihad flight EY 240 bound to Ahmedabad Airport from Abu Dhabi was delayed for two hours, an airline spokesperson confirmed to Khaleej Times. The Ahmedabad-bound flight was supposed to leave Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi at 2.05pm. It departed instead at 4.16pm (UAE time) and arrived in Ahmedabad at 8.32pm (India time).

Subsequent Etihad flights, including EY 246, EY 1356 and EY 244 are expected to depart from Abu Dhabi as scheduled, according to flightaware live tracking.

Meanwhile, Dubai-based carriers reported no delays in their operations on Thursday. Emirates flight (EK 538) and flydubai (FZ 437) were expected to depart as scheduled from Dubai International Airport (DXB) on time at 10.50pm and 11.10pm (UAE time), respectively.

Air Arabia flight G9 418 is also scheduled to depart Sharjah International Airport at 12.25am (Friday), and is expected to touch down at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport terminal 2 at 4.35am (India time, June 13).

flydubai sends condolences

The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for London carrying 242 passengers and crew, went down around 2pm (India time). It crashed into a residential area five minutes after take-off in the Meghaninagar area, close to Ahmedabad international airport. Close to 300 people are feared dead.

Dubai-based carrier flydubai has extended its condolences to all those affected by the plane crash. An airline spokesperson told Khaleej Times on Thursday:“We are saddened to hear about the unfortunate incident today and extend our sincere condolences to all those affected. We are monitoring the situation closely and our flights to Ahmedabad are currently operating to schedule.”
