No Threat Of Frontline Breakthrough In Kharkiv Region Russian Forces Suffering Heavy Losses, Say Military

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Russian troops continue active combat operations in the Kharkiv sector of the front, particularly near Vovchansk, but there is currently no threat of a breakthrough on this front.

This was reported by Pavlo Shamshyn, Spokesperson for the Kharkiv Operational Tactical Group of Troops, during a television broadcast, according to Ukrinform.

According to Shamshyn, the situation around Vovchansk remains tense, although the enemy's activity varies daily.

“Some days, the enemy launches up to ten assault attempts, while other days see relative calm. But that doesn't mean the front is quiet. Russian artillery, MLRS, heavy flamethrower systems, and drones are targeting Vovchansk and nearby settlements,” he said.

A particular danger, he noted, comes from heavy flamethrower system strikes launched from the area of Shebekino, a town in Russia's Belgorod region.

The enemy is also actively deploying both reconnaissance and strike drones, often in support of small infantry groups of three to ten soldiers.

“When they encounter resistance, they use strike drones, while reconnaissance drones help adjust artillery fire,” Shamshyn explained.

Despite these efforts, the situation near Vovchansk remains relatively stable. Russian forces have not managed to advance.

On the overall situation in the Kharkiv direction, Shamshyn noted that daily fighting continues, although the intensity is lower than in areas like Novopavlivka or Pokrovsk.

“Currently, there is no threat of a frontline breakthrough in Kharkiv region. However, the enemy is suffering significant losses - losing the equivalent of half a company to a full company daily, which adds up to a battalion per week,” he emphasized. Shamshyn also dismissed claims of critical Russian reserve build-up near the border.

“No army in the world operates without reserves - that's normal. But to say the enemy currently has enough forces concentrated to break through the front or pose a direct threat to Kharkiv - no, that threat does not exist now,” he stated.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, total Russian combat losses since the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, until June 12, 2025, have exceeded one million personnel.
