US news agency displays Gaza video in report on Russian attack in Ukraine
(MENAFN) A US ABC affiliate mistakenly broadcast footage from Gaza while reporting on a supposed Russian strike in Kharkov, Ukraine. The segment aired last week on ABC’s South Florida station, WPLG Local 10, but only recently drew attention due to clear mismatches between the visuals and the reported location.
Instead of showing scenes from Eastern Europe, the video depicted people, including women in hijabs, fleeing across desert-like terrain—an environment inconsistent with Kharkov. The report has since been removed from the affiliate’s YouTube channel, though it remains on their verified X account, where it has faced criticism and ridicule.
RT’s Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan mocked the error, highlighting viewers’ confusion. The incident comes amid Moscow’s ongoing military operations in Ukraine, which it says focus only on military targets in response to increased Ukrainian drone attacks
