(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Damascus, May 29 (Petra) – President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Senator Khalil Haj Tawfiq, on Thursday, met with Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdul Salam Haykal to explore mechanisms for advancing technical and digital cooperation between companies in the two countries.
Haykal underlined the importance of Jordan's political role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in supporting Syria and its people, noting that this support should pave the way for future economic cooperation.
He stressed the need to strengthen strategic partnerships between ICT firms, startups, and entrepreneurs in both countries, calling for the immediate organization of a joint technical business forum to convene Jordanian and Syrian technology companies and youth entrepreneurs. Haykal also reviewed Syria's plans and projects in digital transformation, automation, and e-government services.
Senator Haj Tawfiq reaffirmed the Jordanian private sector's commitment especially within commercial and service sectors to reinforcing economic ties with Syria. He emphasized the sector's readiness to contribute to Syria's economic recovery and development.
He noted Jordan's progress in ICT and welcomed the proposal to hold the business forum in Damascus, through coordination with Jordan Trade and the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (int@j).
Haj Tawfiq described digital transformation and artificial intelligence as key drivers of economic development and extended an invitation to Minister Haykal to attend the upcoming Digital Economy Investment Conference in Jordan later this year.
For his part, Haitham Rawajbeh, the ICT sector representative at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, said Jordanian IT companies possess strong capabilities enabling them to enter the Syrian market through strategic partnerships. He highlighted the sector's contributions to improving business efficiency, boosting the national economy, and attracting foreign investment, in addition to its central role in digital transformation and service delivery.
President of the Madaba Chamber of Commerce Hussam Odeh, who also attended the meeting, stressed that the ICT sector enables development across all economic sectors, noting that Jordanian companies have the tools and experience to swiftly implement digital services.
Odeh pointed to the success of the Jordanian government's Sanad app, which facilitates public services, with 80 percent of government services now available through the platform.
Rawajbeh further noted that Jordan's ICT companies have achieved significant development, positioning themselves as regional partners for delivering technology solutions across economic sectors.
