(MENAFN) A record number of Americans applied for British citizenship in early 2025, according to figures released Thursday by the Home Office.
In the first quarter of the year, over 1,930 U.S. nationals submitted applications—a historic peak since data collection began. This marks a 12% increase compared to the previous quarter, underscoring a notable uptick in transatlantic migration interest.
"People are leaving because of fear, frustration and financial security. Beyond that is a deeper fear about personal safety," said Ono Okeregha, director of the Immigration Advice Service, in an interview with a news outlet.
Experts suggest that growing political unrest in the U.S., including heightened concerns over government-imposed tariffs, has prompted a wave of citizenship inquiries—especially among American professionals seeking long-term stability abroad.
