China, Thailand Forge Military Collaboration in High-Level Talks
(MENAFN) China and Thailand have pledged to strengthen their military collaboration, particularly in joint exercises and training programs, according to a statement issued Friday by the Chinese Defense Ministry.
During a meeting in Beijing, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun and Thailand’s Chief of Defense Forces, Songwit Noonpackdee, discussed ways to deepen defense ties. Dong stated that Beijing is ready to "fully leverage" its current cooperation framework to broaden efforts in joint training and personnel development.
Songwit reiterated Thailand’s commitment to the "one-China principle" and voiced support for collaborative efforts under the Belt and Road Initiative. He also emphasized the importance of continuing to expand cooperation "across all levels and areas."
A day prior, Songwit held discussions with Liu Zhenli, China’s Chief of Joint Staff. As reported by Chinese news agency, the meeting led to both parties reaching an “important consensus” on enhancing strategic cooperation. The leaders "reached important consensus on strengthening strategic communication and deepening cooperation in joint exercises and training."
