Massive Factory Fire Breaks Out Near Tokyo's Haneda Airport
(MENAFN) A major fire that broke out at an industrial facility near Tokyo’s Haneda Airport was nearly extinguished by Saturday morning, after disrupting some air traffic and triggering a large-scale emergency response, according to a Japanese news outlet.
The blaze started around 5 p.m. local time on Friday, when fire authorities received an emergency call about flames erupting from a conveyor belt inside a plant that handles industrial waste, the outlet reported.
The fire spread rapidly through the second to fourth floors of the four-story building, which is located in an industrial zone approximately two kilometers north of Haneda Airport, Japan’s busiest aviation hub, the report said.
In response, emergency services dispatched over 100 fire trucks to the scene to contain the flames and prevent further damage. One firefighter was reported to have suffered smoke inhalation, though authorities confirmed that his condition was not life-threatening.
The incident led to delays in some flight operations at Haneda, though services gradually resumed as the situation came under control. Firefighters worked through the night, and by early Saturday, the fire was largely extinguished. Investigations into the cause of the blaze are ongoing.
