Germany’s Business Climate Index Sees Slight Uptick in May

(MENAFN) Germany’s business climate index increased slightly in May, rising from 86.9 to 87.5 points, marking its highest value since June 2024, according to the Munich-based Ifo Institute for Economic Research.

The expected increase was 87.4 points.

The improvement stemmed from a reduction in pessimistic outlooks, although companies reported a less favorable assessment of their current business conditions, the institute noted.

The heightened uncertainty among businesses has eased to some extent, signaling a gradual recovery for the German economy.

The manufacturing index saw a notable rise, driven by more optimistic expectations and a better evaluation of the current situation by companies.

In the services sector, the index continued to climb thanks to more positive expectations, though the current situation was viewed less favorably.

The trade index also saw gains, particularly as expectations surged in both wholesale and retail, with traders expressing greater satisfaction with their present conditions.
