Kuwait Cabinet Reviews Amir's Speech At Gulf-US Summit


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, May 15 (KUNA) -- The Cabinet held its regular weekly meeting on Thursday under chairmanship of the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, re-examining His Highness the Amir's speech at the Saudi-hosted Gulf-US Summit, largely devoted to the strategic alliance with the United States of America.
Following the session, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheridah Abdullah Al-Mousherji stated that the Cabinet praised the statement by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah during the Gulf-US Summit, in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, where His Highness expressed deep gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud for the elaborate welcome arrangements and the generous hospitality.
The ministers expressed sincere admiration of the distinctive arrangements for holding the Summit, masterminded by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his keen concern to meet leaders of Arabian Gulf Cooperation Council member states for bolstering cooperation within the framework of the mutual partnership, for the joint vision of a future predominated by peace, stability and development The Cabinet statement, citing some main exceprts of His Highness the Amir's speech at the Gulf-US Summit, quoted him as indicating that the economy is a basis of the partnership with the US, expressing aspiration to launch joint initiatives for investment in the smart infrastructure, support innovation, business leadership, as well as boosting fair free trade, stimulating small and medium enterprises, while lauding the existing cooperation between Kuwait and the US in investments, hoping to increase the volume of investments with the US as a strategic ally for Kuwait.
Citing more details in his speech, the Cabinet statement noted that His Highness affirmed Kuwait's commitment to act within the GCC framework for attaining common GCC-US goals through understandings that aim at attaining the GCC states' peoples.
On regional challenges, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal had expressed his hope that the summit would be a gateway to tackle the region's issues and problems, hoping to see a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause according to the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative to ensure establishing the independent Palestinian state with the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
Moreover, His Highness the Amir had welcomed President Trump's declaration of lifting the sanctions on Syria.
Meanwhile, the ministers were briefed about outcome of the official visit paid to the country by the Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and the official talks' session where His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal headed the Kuwaiti side while Aoun led the Lebanese delegation -- with attendance of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah and senior officials from the two countries.
The Cabinet statement noted that the discussions dealt with the distinguished and brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, means of backing them up in various spheres, while affirming the necessity of solidifying the mutual cooperation, in addition to discussing conditions in Lebanon and affirming that the country stand in front of a historic opportunity to determine its future, overcome past challenges and start reconstruction.
Moreover, the minsters were apprised with messages addressed to His Highness the Amir from presidents of friendly and brotherly states on cementing the bilateral relations and activating cooperation.
On another note, the ministers examined outcome of the official visit the country by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee Ka-chiu, and his accompanying delegation on May 12-14, during which official talks were held with the Acting Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, exploring the advanced bilateral relations, means of boosting the cooperation in the economic, investment, cultural and scientific spheres.
During the visit, Kuwait and Hong Kong signed two memorandums of understanding in the realm of encouraging direct investments.
Furthermore, the ministers reviewed a presentation by the Minister of Social Affairs, Family Affairs and Childhood Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah on the control and supervision over automated systems, financial and administrative oversight for sake of developing a unified platform to monitor the strategic reserves of necessary, food and medical supplies, family accessories, in addition to watching movements of the basic supplies and needs of the domestic markets and collecting statistics about cooperative societies.
On another front, the Minister of Justice Judge Nasser Al-Sumait briefed the ministers about results of his visit to Geneva last week for partaking in a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council during which the fourth State of Kuwait report was unanimously adopted. In this respect, the minister affirmed that the adoption signaled recognition of the sincere national efforts to overhaul the human rights system in Kuwait.
The Cabinet approved forming the governorates' councils and the minutes by the Supreme Committee to Investigate the Kuwaiti Citizenship, including nationality withdrawal cases. (end) rk
