North Korea Launches Ballistic Missiles Towards East Sea

(MENAFN) South Korea's military reported that North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea (Sea of Japan) on Thursday. This marks Pyongyang's first ballistic missile test since March, according to a South Korean news agency. The missiles traveled as far as 800 kilometers (497 miles) before landing in the sea.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) stated that they detected the launch, which they believe "likely" involved multiple short-range ballistic missiles, originating from North Korea's eastern coastal city of Wonsan at approximately 8:10 a.m. local time (2310GMT Wednesday).

"Our military has bolstered surveillance against an additional launch and maintains a full readiness posture while closely sharing information on the North's ballistic missiles with the United States and Japan," the JCS conveyed in a statement.

This recent launch follows North Korea's firing of multiple ballistic missiles on March 10, which coincided with the commencement of joint springtime military exercises by South Korea and the US.
