China-GCC Forum On Peaceful Nuclear Energy Use Kicks Off In Chengdu

BEIJING, April 21 (KUNA) -- The 1st China-GCC Forum on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Technology kicked off on Monday in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in southwest China.
Hosted by the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), the event was attended by the CAEA Chairman Shan Zhongde, GCC Secretary General Jassim Al-Budaiwi, as well as government officials, ambassadors, and experts from GCC countries, Pakistan, and neighboring states.
The forum focused on strengthening cooperation between China and GCC nations in nuclear energy, exploring current needs, future prospects, and scientific developments in peaceful nuclear technologies, and also addressed shared challenges, development goals, and opportunities for collaboration in clean energy.
According to China Central Television (CCTV), Al-Budaiwi praised China's successful experience in tackling climate change, advancing clean energy, and sharing peaceful nuclear technology, and emphasized that nuclear energy is now a strategic priority for GCC countries and hailed the forum as a platform to boost China-GCC cooperation for social and economic progress.
Shan Zhongde reaffirmed China's commitment and readiness to enhance international collaboration in nuclear development and contribute to a shared, peaceful future.
During the forum, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the CAEA and Saudi Arabia's Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission.
The agreement covers cooperation in nuclear safety, non-proliferation, emergency response, joint training, and technical assistance.
China-GCC nuclear collaboration has expanded in recent years, with countries like Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain establishing successful partnerships with Chinese institutions in nuclear medicine and research. (end)
