Survey indicates majority of Russians feel ‘happy’

(MENAFN) Despite external pressures, a large majority of Russians continue to report feeling happy, according to a new nationwide survey released on Wednesday by the state-run pollster VCIOM.

The poll, which involved around 1,600 adults across Russia last month, asked participants whether they considered themselves happy overall, even acknowledging that life includes both good and bad moments. In response, 79% said they were happy to some degree, with 36% describing themselves as “absolutely happy.”

VCIOM noted that the general sense of happiness among Russians has remained steady, with only minor month-to-month changes. The agency attributed this to a notable psychological resilience, citing events like the Covid-19 pandemic, which did not significantly lower public morale.

In contrast, the latest World Happiness Report placed Russia 66th out of 147 countries globally. Finland was ranked the happiest, while Afghanistan came in last. Among European nations, Ukraine was rated the least happy, sitting at 111th globally.

The World Happiness Report evaluates nations based on life satisfaction, economic stability, personal freedoms, and social support, using data primarily sourced from the Gallup World Poll.
