China Urges France To Boost Cooperation To Resist Unilateralism
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
BEIJING, March 27 (KUNA) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Thursday appealed to France to work with China to resist unilateralism, strengthen cooperation and activate the two countries' complementary advantages for economic development.
This came during talks with Li and France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in the Chinese capital.
China's news agency (Xinhua) quoted Li as saying that both Beijing and Paris strongly advocate free trade and multilateralism.
He noted that they are mature, responsible, independent countries with closely intertwined economic interests.
He stressed the need of enhancing communication and coordination to make more stability and certainty for the development of the two countries and the world as a whole, considering France as an important partner.
Li stressed Beijing's readiness to boost cooperation with Paris in traditional fields such as aviation, space, and nuclear energy, and exploring collaboration in emerging and future industries like digital economy, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology.
Li said China hoped that France would create a fair, equitable and predictable development environment for Chinese enterprises investing in the country.
Meanwhile, Barrot said France and China - as permanent members of the UN Security Council - shoulder their important, joint responsibility of protecting multilateralism.
France always sticks to strategic independence, and opposes trade protectionism and trade wars, he pointed out.
He noted that his country supports the EU and China strengthening dialogue and cooperation in the economic and trade fields to address trade disputes of both sides in a proper manner.
France desires to enhance high-level cooperation with China, in addition to facing global challenges like climate change.
In a related development, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference following a meeting with Barrot that the two countries should oppose confrontation between blocs through dialogue and coordination.
This aims to build a more just and rational system of global governance, he noted. (end)
