Global Market Attention Turns to Upcoming Trump Tariffs on April 2

(MENAFN) United States Leader Donald Trump is set to impose reciprocal tariffs on April 2, as global market attention shifts toward Washington’s trade policies in the middle of increasing doubts.

Trump’s deadline for federal agencies to examine unfair trade acts by other nations, which he set upon taking office, is approaching the upcoming week. He plans to impose these tariffs on April 2, referring to the day as “the Liberation Day.”

While it is not yet clear which nations or goods will be affected, Trump has repeatedly stated that the US is being “ripped off” by both allies and adversaries alike.

Although the details remain uncertain, reports suggest that Trump’s reciprocal tariffs may be more limited than initially anticipated.

The White House is likely to target nations with significant foreign trade volumes, especially those with notable trade deficits with the US, while potentially excluding specific industrial sectors.

Earlier, Trump had indicated that tariffs would be applied to the automotive, pharmaceutical, as well as semiconductor industries, but it now seems unlikely he will impose tariffs based on sector alone. However, the specifics of his plans are still unclear.

Recently, Trump mentioned he would impose tariffs on automobiles and pharmaceuticals soon, but did not specify a timeline.
