Turkey Urges Lifting of Restrictions on Defense Exports

(MENAFN) Turkey has urged the removal of both formal and informal restrictions on defense ship-outs as well as arms export licenses to better equip its forces in addressing a variety of security challenges.

This statement was made on Tuesday by Hulusi Akar, the chairman of the National Defense Committee of the Turkish Parliament.

Akar was speaking in Warsaw at the Inter-Parliamentary Conference for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP), an event hosted by Poland, which holds the presidency of the European Union Council.

He emphasized that Turkey is ready to play a more significant role in strengthening transatlantic ties and expanding cooperation in both the defense sector and advanced technology.

Furthermore, Akar pointed out that NATO’s collective defense missions need to be further reinforced.

He underscored that terrorism continues to be one of the most pressing hybrid threats, and Turkey has been at the forefront of combating it.

The country has actively fought against various terrorist groups, like Al-Qaeda, ISIS (Daesh), the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), as well as the PKK/YPG.
