Japan Accepts Palestinians Injured In Gaza For Treatment

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, March 26 (KUNA) -- Japan began accepting Palestinians injured from Gaza to provide medical treatment on Wednesday, Defense Minister Gen Nakatani said.
"We have decided to accept those who had been hospitalized in Egypt after suffering injuries in the war in the Gaza Strip. Today, one Palestinian woman from Gaza arrived in Japan and began receiving treatment at the Self-Defense Forces Central Hospital," Nakatani told reporters.
Another Palestinian is due to arrive in Japan for treatment in the coming days, the minister said. Both Palestinians are supposed to return to Gaza after the treatment and not intended to settle down in Japan, according to Nakatani.
It is the first time that Japan has accepted patients from Gaza since the current conflict started in October 2023. This is part of medical assistance in response to the serious humanitarian situation in Gaza and the request from the World Health Organization (WHO), the ministry said in a press release.
With the cooperation of the Egyptian government, Japan has been considering the possibility of treating a small number of patients who have become injured or ill in Gaza, it said. Japan will make utmost efforts to provide adequate medical care to them, it added. (end)
