UK labor market defies slump, showing strong resilience
(MENAFN) Despite ongoing weak macroeconomic conditions in 2025, the UK labor market has displayed strong resilience.
Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) released on March 14 revealed a 0.1% contraction in the UK's economy compared to the previous month. With the services sector saw modest growth of 0.1%, while construction and manufacturing declined by 0.2% and 0.9%, respectively.
However, contrary to expectations, the labor market remains steadfast. Recent data released on March 20 reveals that the easing of labor market conditions has nearly halted, indicating continued stability.
"Headline unemployment stood at 4.4 percent in the three months to January. Unemployment has stayed relatively stable in recent months, despite a notable decline in business sentiment and hiring intentions," head economist at KPMG UK, Yael Selfin, stated.
Between November and January, Britain's employment rate reached 75%, showing improvement compared to both the same period last year and the preceding three months.
