Majority Of Schools In J&K, Ladakh Follow Three-Language Formula: Report
According to the latest figures, 81.2% of schools in J&K and 77.4% in Ladakh offer three languages, while 15.7% of schools in J&K and 21.4% in Ladakh implement a two-language system. A smaller percentage, 3.1% in J&K and 1.2% in Ladakh, offer only one language in their curriculum, reported news agency KNO.
In terms of student enrollment, 83.4% of students in J&K and 84.4% in Ladakh are enrolled in schools offering three languages, while 14.1% in J&K and 15.2% in Ladakh study in institutions with two-language instruction. Only 2.5% of students in J&K and 0.5% in Ladakh attend schools with a single-language curriculum.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes flexibility in the three-language formula, ensuring that at least two of the three languages taught are Indian languages. The policy aims to promote multilingualism while allowing students to change their language choices in Grade 6 or 7, provided they attain proficiency in three languages by the end of secondary school.
Meanwhile, in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across Tamil Nadu, which follow a uniform education scheme under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 86 Hindi and 65 Sanskrit faculty members are currently employed, along with 24 part-time Tamil teachers engaged based on student demand.
