Russia To Retaliate Proportionately Against Ukraine, Says Zakharova
Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has stated that Moscow reserves the right to respond to Ukrainian attacks on its energy facilities. She emphasized that Russia will take necessary actions to protect its infrastructure from further damage.
According to international media reports, Zakharova made this statement on Saturday, March 22, noting that despite agreements made with the United States to refrain from attacking energy infrastructure, Kyiv continues its attacks on Russian facilities. She pointed out that Ukraine's actions go against these agreements, creating further tensions between the two countries.
She specifically referred to the attacks on a fuel depot in Kuban on March 19 and a natural gas measurement station in the Kursk region on March 21. These actions, she argues, highlight Kyiv's continued aggression despite international diplomatic efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.
Zakharova also criticized the Ukrainian military for deliberately targeting residential areas and social institutions. She stated,“It is entirely clear that Kyiv is once again showing it has neither the ability nor the willingness to negotiate or seek peace.” This statement underscores the deepening divide between the two nations as hostilities persist.
It is also noteworthy that Russia and Ukraine were reportedly nearing a 30-day ceasefire agreement, mediated by the United States. This potential agreement could provide a temporary break in the ongoing conflict, offering hope for future diplomatic talks and stability.
Meanwhile, the ceasefire agreement holds the possibility of reducing immediate tensions, the ongoing attacks and accusations on both sides highlight the challenges in achieving a long-term resolution. The situation remains fragile, and both Russia and Ukraine must navigate the complexities of diplomacy to avoid further escalation.
Moreover, the international community's role in facilitating meaningful dialogue will be crucial in ensuring that any ceasefire is respected and that both nations can work toward lasting peace and stability in the region.
