Fms Of Egypt, Iran, Lebanon Discuss Escalation In Region

CAIRO, March 22 (KUNA) -- Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and his peers of Iran and Lebanon Abbas Araghchi and Youssef Raggi receptively discussed on Saturday situations in the region.
This was announced during two telephone calls received by Abdelatti from his counterparts, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Abdelatty and his Lebanese peer focused on the worrying escalation in southern Lebanon that poses tensions and instability in the region, it added.
The Egyptian minister warned that this escalation might lead to further instability, stressing Egypt's stance supporting Lebanon's state, its national institutions and stability in the face of security challenges, it noted.
He pointed to the need of implementing of, and abiding by, the deal of stopping hostilities in southern Lebanon, and the immediate and full withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from southern Lebanon.
He also called for empowering Lebanese army to implement the Resolution 1701.
Meanwhile, Abdelatty discussed with his Iranian peer accelerating developments in the region, and the need of containing escalation either in Gaza, Lebanon or Yemen.
Abdelatty underlined the necessity of self-restraint during this critical phase the region is going through, and avoiding taking steps that fuel the situation.
Abdelatty further focused on the Red Sea developments, affirming the need of protecting sea navigation and highlighting Egypt's economic losses due to the decline in Suez Canal revenues and instability in the region.
It is imperative to restore calm in the region, and avoid dragging the region into a circle of violence, he said.
He underlined the necessity of consolidating the ceasefire deal in Gaza and containing the current escalation, it pointed out. (end) aff
