Ukraine reports casualties amid Russian aerial assault
(MENAFN) A coordinated unmanned aerial vehicle assault by Russian forces in the Kirovohrad region inflicted injuries on multiple civilians, Ukrainian authorities reported Thursday.
The Ukrainian General Prosecutor's Office, via Telegram, confirmed that "Eleven were injured as a result of a hostile attack on the Kirovohrad region," prompting an immediate probe into the attack.
The sustained attack, concentrated on the city of Kropyvnytskyi, spanned over two hours and involved the deployment of more than twenty drones. "Two people are in serious condition. Critical and civilian infrastructure was damaged," the office stated, highlighting the severity of the assault.
Initial reports from Ukraine’s National Police indicated ten individuals, including four children, sustained injuries, with damage to private residences and multi-story buildings.
Kirovohrad Governor Andriy Raykovych characterized the strikes as “the most massive enemy attack,” underscoring the intensity of the assault.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a statement on X, condemned the daily drone and missile attacks, arguing that they reveal Russia's true disposition toward peace. "Every day and every night, nearly a hundred or more drones are launched, along with ongoing missile attacks. With each such launch, the Russians expose to the world their true attitude towards peace," he said.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that its air defense systems successfully intercepted 75 out of 171 drones launched by Russia across various regions, including Kirovohrad and Kyiv.
Additionally, 63 decoy drones were reported to have failed to reach their intended targets.
As of the time of reporting, Russian authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the attack or the claims made by Kyiv.
