
Palestinian Minister Talk Partnerships In Brazil

Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen had a meeting at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation
According to information from Brazil's Science Ministry, Shaheen proposed on Wednesday (19) the creation of a cooperation instrument in science and technology between the ministries of both countries. This agreement could lead to personnel training and technology transfers.
“Her extensive academic and professional experience, including her leadership at Al Quds University and her involvement in development and human rights projects in Palestine, is inspiring,” said Brazil's Science Minister Luciana Santos. She also said it was gratifying to have a female minister in her office.
On Monday (17), Shaheen was received at the Itamaraty Palace, the headquarters of Brazil's Foreign Ministry. Along with the Secretary-General of Brazil's Foreign Ministry, Maria Laura da Rocha, Shaheen led the 5th Meeting of the Brazil-Palestine Bilateral Political Consultation Mechanism, during which they discussed the situation in Palestine and Brazil expressed its support for the end of hostilities in the region.

They discussed deepening cooperation between the two countries and decided to hold annual meetings of the Bilateral Political Consultations Mechanism to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
“They also agreed to foster connections contacts between academic institutions and organizations from their countries specializing in international relations and foreign policy, as well as encourage connections between cultural institutions and civil society organizations, as well as cooperation between private sector institutions from their countries,” stated Brazil's Foreign Ministry in a note. According to information from the Palestinian Ambassador in Brasília, Ibrahim Alzeben, Rocha and Shaheen also discussed cooperation in areas such as agriculture and education, as well as Brazil's support for Palestine in international organizations, such as the International Court of Justice.
At the Foreign Ministry, she paid a courtesy visit to the Brazilian Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, during which she signed a bilateral protocol on political consultations.

During her visit to Brasília, Shaheen was received by lawmakers at the Brazilian Federal Senate and met with diplomats from other countries, in addition to Palestine. As part of her schedule, she gave a lecture at the Rio Branco Institute, the academy that trains Brazilian diplomats. The minister discussed the situation in Palestine, addressed the escalation of violence in the Palestinian territories, and presented the Arab plan for the reconstruction of her country. At the Foreign Ministry, she also requested Brazil's support for the reconstruction of Gaza.
On Sunday, at the Cathedral of Brasília, she attended a Mass and brought a mother-of-pearl cross made using an ancient Palestinian technique. In the city, she held meetings with the Palestinian community and the Christian community.
Before returning to Palestine on Thursday (20), Shaheen met at Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo with the Vice President of International Relations and Secretary-General of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), Mohamad Mourad, and representatives of the Palestinian community in Brazil. Shaheen was accompanied by Alzeben during her appointments in Brazil. Upon her arrival in the country, she was also received at the airport in São Paulo by the ABCC's institutional relations advisor, Bassel Abou Latif.
