Centre Constructing 47 Highway Projects In J&K
According to the data shared by the Union Ministry of Road transport and Highways J&K and Ladakh are among the key regions benefiting from the government's highway expansion plan, which has seen the country's national highway length grow from 91,287 km in 2014 to 1,46,204 km in 2025.
“These projects are expected to improve connectivity, enhance trade routes, and provide year-round accessibility to remote regions,” the ministry said, adding,“Measures such as mandatory road safety audits, rectification of accident-prone black spots, and the introduction of advanced safety technologies in vehicles are being implemented.”
The government has planned wayside amenities (WSAs) at 40-60 km intervals along national highways, with fuel stations, EV charging points, rest areas, and food courts. Out of 700+ planned WSAs, 393 have been awarded, with 94 currently operational, it said.
