Google Doodle Changes For Nowruz 1404 New Year Celebration

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Google continued its long-standing tradition by changing its homepage logo to celebrate the ancient Nowruz festival, which is observed by millions globally.

The logo displayed on Google's homepage on Thursday, March 20, 2025, was a colorful and meaningful Google Doodle, honoring the arrival of spring and the new solar year while spreading messages of hope, joy, and renewal to over 300 million people worldwide celebrating the festival.

According to Google's description, Nowruz dates back over 3,000 years and has deep roots in Persian culture and ancient civilizations, now being celebrated by hundreds of millions across the globe.

The description highlights that Nowruz“heralds the arrival of spring” and is celebrated in regions including the Middle East, South Caucasus, Black Sea Basin, and Central, Northern, Western, and Southern Asia. It also emphasizes the recognition of Nowruz by the United Nations as an intangible cultural heritage, promoting peace, unity across generations, and friendship among nations.

The Nowruz 1404 design by Pendar Yousefi, an Iranian-American artist and the UX lead for Google Translate, features a visually striking combination of traditional elements and springtime symbols.

The Google logo is surrounded by colorful spring flowers, fresh sprouts, and flying birds. The center of the design highlights the Haft-Seen table (Seven Seen Table), an important Nowruz tradition.

The Haft-Seen table, featuring seven symbolic items that start with the Persian letter“S,” like apples (beauty), samanu (strength), and sprouts (renewal), carries messages of abundance, health, and hope. The design also depicts people dancing and celebrating in traditional embroidered clothing, with elements like colored eggs and sweets adding to the festive atmosphere.

Yousefi explained that the design was inspired by happy childhood memories of Nowruz and aimed to capture the joy, unity, and hope that the festival brings, even in challenging times. Through extensive research on Nowruz traditions in cultures ranging from the Middle East to Central Asia, he created a design that appeals not only to Persian speakers but to all celebrants of the festival.

Google's Nowruz Doodle, a tradition that began in 2006 in response to requests from the Persian-speaking community, has now become an annual feature. It serves to celebrate the widespread cultural significance of Nowruz, uniting people across countries such as Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and parts of India and Pakistan.
