Demonstrations erupt in Madrid against Israeli renewed strikes on Gaza
(MENAFN) On Wednesday, protesters took to the streets of Madrid to denounce Israel's recent attacks on Gaza, which violated a two-month-long ceasefire. The demonstration, organized by civil society groups in solidarity with Palestinians, took place in Callao Square and received support from the Podemos Political group.
The crowd echoed chants like "Murderer Israel," "Long live Palestinian resistance," as well as "No to genocide," while also urging the Spanish government to end its weaponry trade to Israel.
Despite official claims that weaponry trade to Israel were halted after October 7, 2023, the Solidarity Network Against the Occupation of Palestine (RESCOP) disputed this, citing foreign trade data that indicated Spain exported €22,730 ($24,795) worth of artillery and missile launchers components to Israel in January. Furthermore, RESCOP revealed that Spain had imported explosives and projectiles from Israel valued at €2.15 million.
