Albanese: Australia's role in upcoming Ukraine peace-building effort to be 'small'

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that his nation’s participation in any future peacekeeping mission in Ukraine would be "small."

A news agency stated that his comments followed opposition requests that Australian forces must not be deployed to Ukraine.

Albanese took part in a late-night phone talk led by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which brought together "coalition of the willing" that includes 29 Western nations, featuring leaders from Canada, New Zealand, as well as Europe. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also present, but the US was notably left out from the meeting.

Starmer announced that the planning for a peacekeeping force in Ukraine would move into its "operational phase" as he demanded specific efforts from allies to back Kyiv. He also called on countries to intensify their efforts to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin.
