Collision in Egypt leaves eight dead, dozen injured
(MENAFN) The Health Ministry reported that a tragic collision between a train and a bus in Ismailia, a city in north-eastern Egypt, on Thursday resulted in no less than eight fatalities and left a dozen injured.
The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) explained in an announcement that the accident occurred at the moment the minibus tried to swiftly cross the tracks at an unauthorized junction.
Approximately thirteen ambulances quickly arrived at the site of the incident, with the injured transported to El Qantara Sharq Central Hospital for medical care.
To avoid similar incidents in the future, the ENR issued a renewed call for drivers and walkers to use only marked railway junctions.
This collision adds to Egypt’s history of rail accidents, with the most fatal one occurring in 2002 in Giza Governorate, particularly Ayyat city. During that incident, a fire erupted on a train on its way to Luxor from Cairo, which claimed the lives of over 380 individuals.
