Australia’s banning of DeepSeek grows tension with China

(MENAFN) Australia's resolution to prohibit the Chinese AI platform DeepSeek has triggered diplomatic conflicts between both countries, with Beijing expressing blame on Canberra of wrongfully banning its technology by means of local security.

During the beginning of February, Australia was marked as one of the first regions to restrict the DeepSeek AI app from all government appliances as well as systems over security concerns. The Australian authority commanded the ban of DeepSeek from all government appliances, stating that the platform is an improper danger to official systems.

China has firmly critiqued the stance, describing it as an “overstretching” of regional security threats.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry representative stated that Beijing “attaches great importance to data privacy and security and protects it in accordance with the law,” criticizing the accusations that the app saves and collects data illegally.

"China has all along opposed moves to overstretch the concept of national security or politicize trade and tech issues," she added.
