UN: Ramadan In Afghanistan Arrives Amid Food Insecurity Affecting 15 Million People
On Sunday, March2, OCHA wrote that currently, 3.1 million people in Afghanistan are struggling with acute hunger. The organization acknowledged that more than one billion dollars are needed to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need in Afghanistan.
The UN office also highlighted that of the total budget required for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan, only 9.9 million dollars have been secured so far. OCHA urged its donors to help the organization address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Previously, OCHA had stated that in 2025, approximately 23 million people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance, and addressing their needs will require a budget of 2.24 billion dollars.
On February 19, OCHA announced that between January and October 2024, humanitarian aid was provided to around 18 million people in Afghanistan. This aid included food, health services, and support for farmers. OCHA had previously stated that approximately 23 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian assistance.
The situation in Afghanistan remains dire, with millions of people struggling to survive amid a deepening humanitarian crisis. The support needed to alleviate their suffering is substantial, and urgent action is required from the international community.
As the crisis continues to worsen, it is vital for both authorities and organizations worldwide to step up their efforts in providing aid to those affected by the ongoing challenges in Afghanistan. The international community's response will play a crucial role in alleviating the hardships faced by millions in this war-torn country.
